2010 Appreciation Tea
NHCS Advisory Council's Appreciation Education Tea
April 28, 2010
NHCS Advisory Council's Appreciation Tea was held on April 28, 2010 at the Spencer Building. Fifty-four individuals and community agencies were nominated and recognized at the Appreciation Tea. Community partners, PPD and NHCS PTA's, generously donated funds to support the event. In addition, 55 gift bags were presented to the Exceptional Children bus drivers for their dedication to students with disabilities in New Hanover County.

2010 Coming Together Conference
The Coming Together Conference is a partnership between the Family Support Network of Southeastern NC and the New Hanover County School System. Every year it brings together agencies and organizations from all over North Carolina and the US to share and educate our school teachers, administrators, and professionals that work with children with special needs.
The Coming Together Conference also focuses on providing parents and caregivers of these exceptional children information about support groups, agencies, methodologies, and up to date news in the area of special needs. Each year the conference provides a forum for workshops, seminars and experts to discuss the latest information and issues concerning special needs education. This year's conference was held at Anderson Elementary School on February 15, 2010.
Advisory Council Supports NHCS EC Ambassador Initiative
"Making Every Child's Potential a Reality"
The NHCS Advisory Council is currently supporting an EC Ambassador Initiative. Each school's EC Ambassador will act as a contact and resource for other parents within the school. The Ambassador will also work to ensure that children with special needs and their families become actively involved and included within the school community.
